Homemade Apple Turnovers

easy individual apple pies {apple hand pies recipe} - It's Always ...

Hey, everybody! I made small apple pies recently. They were really good, so I thought I'd share the recipe. :)

Apple Filling:

  • 2 cups (240 grams) chopped apples
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (15 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 -1 teaspoon ground cinnamon adjust to your personal preference
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions:

Combine the chopped apples, sugar, flour, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg in a mixing bowl until fully combined and all of the apples are coated with the mixture. Set aside.

Egg wash:

  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) milk

Instructions:

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until well combined. Set aside.

Pie Crust Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 6 tbsp cold Butter
  • 4 tbsp ice-cold Water
Instructions:
  1. Mix together flour and salt in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Cut in butter with pastry blender or forks until mixture is pebble-sized crumbs.
  3. Add water and blend until mixture pulls together.
  4. Roll into ball and place on a lightly floured surface or parchment paper
  5. Roll out dough
  6. Cut the dough into smaller pieces
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line 1-2 large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats and set aside.
  8. Distribute the apple filling to one side of a piece of dough. Place 1-2 pieces of the cubed butter on top of the filling on each pie. Fold over. Use a fork to crimp edges.
  9. Brush the top of each pie with the egg wash. Sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired, then cut 2-3 slits in the top of each pie.
  10. Bake at 400°F for 18-22 minutes or until the pies are golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool slightly before serving.
